Fit for 55 - on the (right) path to climate neutrality?

You are invited to our next trainee event at our offices

The Chatham team invites you to out next trainee event on Thursday, 14 October 2021, with a lecture and subsequent discussion on the topic Fit for 55 - on the (right) path to climate neutrality?

As part of the European Green Deal, the EU has set itself the binding goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050. As an interim target on the road to climate neutrality, the European Union has committed to reducing its emissions by at least 55% by 2030. In July 2021, the European Commission accordingly published its "Fit for 55 Package", which contains numerous draft legislative proposals. When the proposals will be adopted is still unclear; however, the political agreement process promises to be arduous.

Our partner Felix Fischer and our lawyers Dr Christos Paraschiakos and Philipp Reinecke will give an overview of the main proposed amendments of the "Fit for 55 Package" and present their relevance for legal advice. Afterwards, we will discuss the following questions, among others:

  • What is the relevance of the amendments, especially in the energy, transport and infrastructure sectors?
  • Do the amendments go far enough to achieve the goal of climate neutrality? How can this be assessed?
  • How do the amendments affect the work of lawyers? To what extent can lawyers contribute to climate neutrality with their work?

After the discussion, we look forward to good conversations over food and drinks here in the office. Please note that the event is planned as a 2G event and therefore proof of full vaccination or recovery is required. The event will be held in German language.
