Hamburg's roofs must be used for solar energy generation

Hamburg Climate Protection Act is put into concrete terms

Section 16 of the Hamburg Climate Protection Act stipulates that, in principle, all suitable roof areas must be used to generate electricity by using solar radiation energy. This applies not only to commercial properties but also to residential buildings. The background is that the energy transition has so far taken place in rural areas (wind power and biomass). Now opportunities in urban areas shall be used:

Buildings whose construction starts after 1 January 2023 or buildings whose roof cladding is completely renewed after 1 January 2025 must in principle operate a photovoltaic system on the roof.

The Hamburg Senate must issue the details in a statutory order by 31 December 2020. The clock is ticking and we will keep you posted about the concrete content of the statutory order at the beginning of next year.
